Apostolos – Evangelism (Outreach) and Missions Teams
God has put a calling on our hearts, a vision to reach a vast multitude of unsaved people with the everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ. The calling stretches beyond our own inabilities and propels us to completely and totally rely on God’s abilities. It is a burning passion to do God’s Will: an undying compassion for the lost souls of this world.
Statistician tells us that over forty million souls die each year – the majority of without Christ. What a pathetic situation- thousand plunging headlong into eternal damnation every day. They live in Asia, Africa, North and South America, Europe and right across the street, or next door to you!
We rejoice about the commission given to the church, but too many fail to realize that individual make up the church. The commission is to the individual member as well as to the entire church. We‘re commissioned by Jesus himself to go, to bring forth fruit, and to preserve your fruit… “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: That whatsoever ye shall ask of the father in my name, he may give it you.” (John 15:16)
The great commission is “go ye”. For some reason we appear to have substituted- come ye. It is usually suggested that the person in need of God should come to the church service and get saved. This thought is not being condemned. However, be it known that God will save souls anywhere, in addition to our efforts in the home, and every place we can reach them.
When Jesus gave this commission, he did not mean for the ministry only to be soul- winners, though they certainly should be examples to the flock. He spoke to the church on the Mount of Olives before he ascended, and one hundred and twenty went to Jerusalem to wait for the promise (the Holy Ghost). Of those present at Pentecost many were not preachers but he told them all to be witnesses… “but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
While techniques and know-how can be very important and even a great asset, nothing can replace the work of the Spirit of God. We may be faithful to the church and all its ministries, an ardent supporter with finances and attendance, and yet have no concern or compassion for the lost.
Evangelism
How do we define evangelism?
Evangelism is every day, and in every way, helping our friends take one step closer to Jesus Christ. “Come, follow me,“ Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19 (NIV)
